Hi all,
I'm a newbie here & to metal detecting as well.
My husband & I found this item on our first "real hunt" in South Carolina while visiting my daughter.

It was found in the yard of a real small abandoned home that is about 110 yrs old. We asked permission to dig from the owner that lives in the house across the street from it.

It's really rusty & I believe it is made of iron. No markings on it that I can see.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Tnet! I think someone else just posted a find like that a few days ago. If I remember correctly, it was a blade off an industrial brush mower. You might want to do a search on here to find out exactly what it was called.

As Creskol said, it is a guard off a sickle-bar mower, which is used mainly in farming, not lawnmowing. Some diggers call your find a sickle-bar mower "tooth" but it is actually a guard for the cutting-teeth. I'm replying with that more-specific info to save you some reseach time. The attached photos should also be helpful for envisioning what the machine looks like, and where your find was attached to it.

Since no one else has chimed in on the other items in your pictures, I think the white and purple thing is an iPhone. Probably a 4, 4S or 5 model. Those phones originally were manufactured in white or black; you have the white version.

The purple cover is a removable protective case was probably added by the owner.

I'm glad somebody could ID that lolol. After reading this my digging buddy and myself have been wrong. My buddy told me it was a seed dipper lol. Seed would go in the round bowl and the point would scrape the ground. He said it would go around in circles scraping and throwing the seed into the hole lol. I have found these in 1920-1930s sites only. Even though I'm not the OP thanks guys!

Thanks so much for all the info I really appreciate it. I thought we dug up some kind of really old weapon...some kind of dagger or something...lol.

You are exactly right Clovis97. It's a white iphone 5. I have a dozen rulers and of course I couldn't find one when I was taking the picture. :)
