Help Me Make Up My Mind

I am wanting to get a detector and can't make up my mind. I am a father of 2 little boys so money is an issue. I originally planned on getting an Ace 250. Sounds like a great buy for the money. Dealer in town has a M6 with pinpointer, headphones, carrying bag, digger, apron, and coil cover for $590. DFX for $840. I have the money for any of them but as I grow older and with the addition of my boys, I have grown stingy in my old age. 90% of the time, I will be searching old houses for coins. I would really like to search for civil war stuff and I know that the 250 isn't designed for relic hunting. Plus I am not sure how much civil war relic hunting I would actually get to do. There are places nearby but as of this moment, I don't have access to any of them. My parents also live at the beach and would detect there 2 or 3 times a year. Again the 250 isn't great for this. I want to get the 250 but I am afraid that I won't be happy with it. What do you all think? Help talk me into one or the other please. If you are a big fan of the 250, let me hear your stories.

just strating out (like myself) and general concensus it's the ace 250 hands down its often refured to as the 400 detector for 200

theres also several posts throughout the forum here on this as well as ace seems alot of people disagree and find it OK for the beach as well as relic hunting

Everything I read says it is a good detector. They also say that it is no DFX. What am I missing by buying the 250 and saving $600? I just figure with a small weekend trip coming up, about $400 in car repairs coming up, car insurance due in a month ($600) and Christmas around the corner, I need to save some money. I just don't want to be missing out on anything down the road wishing I had bought a real relic machine. Too many decisions.

T,

;) ;D.

Think the first thing is you have to decide how
much you want to spend. I read from a Ace 250
on up to DFX for $850. So what is the amount?

Some will tell you to get the best you can afford.

Sounds like you want to do all types of hunting.

250 will do everything you mentioned.

But if your not happy NOW thinking of a 250, I'm
sure after using the 250 for a few weeks you will
wish you spent more.

Hell, the kids don't need a college education; few
years from now you can get them both part time jobs;
cancell that weekend trip; do the car repairs yourself;
if you don't get stopped, or stop after an accident you
don't need the insurance; :D

Is the wife working? How many jobs?

Christmas ; ;) Just tell the kids you changed your faith
and do not do Christmas.

Go for it, spend the big bucks, you could be dead in the
morning, make your move, do it.

Hope this helps ::)

have a good un.............

Forget them all and buy a Nautilus IIB with the S handle and 10-inch coil (under $600).

The IIB is about 3 to 4 times deeper than the Ace 250 and it's probably 3 times easier to learn and use.

Picture finding rings at 6 inches. Now picture using a machine with the power and clear signal to nail a wedding band at 18 inches. How about CW 3-ringers? Like to dig them at 14 inches or more? Can you see where a Nautilus could be an advantage?

Buy a quality machine now and don't miss the good stuff.

Most on here recommend a low-cost machine as a starter. This is wrong..wrong..wrong! If you can afford it, learn the right way in the beginning.

The rumor that the Nautilus is strictly a "relic machine" is ridiculous.

If you'd like to know more, PM me.

I would run, not walk to the M6 Package. I have used MXT..DFX..Ace 250..Garrett 1350..and others and find the M6 my perfict machine. Simple to run, very deep, excellent coil selection. I am not a fiddler. I much prefure to keep things simple and yet still not give up performance. The M6 has allowed me to do that. Besides, it is roughly mid range of your price spred. I honestly feel if you bought the Ace 250 you would be wanting to trade up within a month. If you like the Garrett line I recomend a good used GTAx 1250(around 250 to 300) or maybe a 1350. Whatever you buy if you stick with a major brand you can't go to far wrong as long as you don't pay to much for it. If your local dealer offers you a good deal(sounds like he allready has) give him your business. Hopefully he is one of the good guys and will offer you after sale support and training. The best of luck and you have allready started out on the right foot. Get some help if you can from a local club member.(ask your dealer)

Thats real good advice FishDaddy, the M6 is a good machine & may never want or need to upgrade. Sounds like a great price too, but if that deal falls through talk to Dallas & im sure he can give you a great deal on a good machine............Ive bought two great machines from him & got great deals! :)
