Hi All,
So I found this item in a bottle dump I go to on occasion. Along with bottles, the area is filled with automotive related items from the 50's-60's I'd say.
Item Description:
-About 2" long
-Brass or copper
-Hollow or partially hollow
-May open but does not (seized?)
-Has 5 round indents at the top
-Has a reeded edge at the very bottom.
Any info would be much appreciated

Thanks,
Chris

Popschevy, Welcome to T-Net!

My guess is an old lipstick holder.

The knurled bottom would suggest it turns to raise something or lock container I would spray it with WD40 and hold top end and try to work it back and forth to open or get it to raise.

My first thought exactly... lipstick tube.
If you clean up the base, you'll likely find the name of the maker.

I think it's probably a lipstick tube. I have seen some really strange looking tire pressure gages from that era. Most of the old restoration guys used to use boiling water to loosen frozen parts. Leaves no residue.

Welcome and best wishes!

Thanks for all the responses. I will attempt to get this to come unstuck. That may be the trick to finding out what it is for sure.

I don't know what it is but I like that you used a PEZ dispenser for a point of reference.

Thanks Doubter, It was what I had at the moment. Everyone knows how big a pez dispenser is.

Update:
So I cleaned up the base and found a name.
Northam Warren New York
Made in U.S.A.
Northam Warren became the owner of the Cutex Company which created many products including lipstick. I did some Googling and found this ad from the early 1950's.1012c7eb83552e2b74527a4c05929021.jpg
Here is a photo of the base.

I think we can call this one case closed. Thanks to everyone who piped in.

I can't say for 100%, but it looks very much like an old match holder my father had for camping. Maybe Boy Scouts or Military.
