As a former Quartermaster soldier I gotta give that a :icon_thumleft:

All the ones I've researched have the eagle's head facing the left not right like yours. So I can't help with age.

Correct. Its not really solved until we can match the eagles head.

I unchecked the solved mark. Let me know if anyone can come up with the age. The place it was found dates back to the 1700's. Found numerous things dating all the way back to the early 1700. Thanks for the help so far.

I emailed the Quartemaster museum at Ft. Lee, VA. I was given this response.

I will be out of the office 7-18 June. Please contact Mr. Larry Smith at (804) 765-1017 or Walter Washington at (804) 765-1003.

Try giving them a call.

Its probably WWI era. Another thing I noticed, besides the eagles head, is that the key and sword are reversed. Im wondering if this is just a manufacturers error which is common. For instance, I have seen Great Seals with the eagles head, arrows and talons reversed.

Encyclopedia of United States Army insignia and uniforms By William K. Emerson

Look on pages 255 and 256.

Looks like a rare find! Quartermaster Sergeant campaign hat device from 1905-1907.

The Army made the quartermaster crest with the eagle looking in both directions for a short while. These were worn by Post Quartermaster Sergeants from 1905-1907.

The Quartermaster museum got back to me.

Their response: Definitely WWI about 1917. Probably part of a pair of Officer's collar insignia. Hoping this will help. Sincerely, Lutherhanson QM Museum
