I live in Ticonderoga as previously stated and I have unearthed many an old British coin, the oldest being a 1753 rex in well preserved condition. I am asking your help to help me locate a Gold British Sovereign. Now I know it seems out there but every coin and relic I have found so far has been British and I need to know if there is a certain spot on my property that would be more likely to produce then others. I assure it is in a spot that would have been centrally located by one of the most fought over places in the early wars. This coin taunts me in my mind constantly I know that it is out there and I need to find it.

I have a discovery 1100 metal detector it's pics up silver/copper, mid range and iron. The owners manuel says mid range would be where the small to medium size gold. I've been discriminating against the iron and looking for the mid range beeps on the lowest sensitivity.

Just how would anyone be able to help you find a certain coin on your property?

TiBorn: I hope you don't think I'm being flippant, but is there even the slightest chance that the gold coin is NOT there? Like ... a lot of time has passed and maybe someone picked it up already. Next advice that I've been taking seriously during my learning curve is to dig every signal. Search in "audio harassment mode" until you think you are about to go nuts. That will give you all the junk and good targets to dig and have you occupied ''til the end of time.

Now for logical places to search in case you don't care to grid off the property and methodically hit every square inch .... look for obvious walking paths, where people (troops) would take. Wide areas along streams may be attractive camping areas. Anyplace where people may have been walking, camping are logical hot spots.

Ever how you know the gold coin is there, I'll bet you can't be sure how deep it is. Your detector, or anybody's detector for that matter has depth limits. That fact alone may mean you will never find the coin.

Damnit, I'm envious of your coin finds on that property. I'd have a stroke if I pulled up a Revolutionary War era coin on my property.

I can't say for certain that this coin is on my property but I can say that I feel like I am going to find one, one day. I hope I do but if I never do I'll still have found some cool stuff and I'm okay with that. Thanks for the help and wish me luck.

I'm gonna take your advice and just dig over every inch of the property starting from the front and working my way back. Actually I'm thinking I'll break from that just once to re dig at the spot where I found the 1753 Rex and after that it's back to project Burgoyne grid.
