Hey barry,

THe Whites Eclipse is just a coil so rule that one out. Its not a detector.

Garrett 1500 gti is a great mid level detector but will have a learning curve.

Gold Master GMT is great for Gold pospecting its a VLF Detector so it wont have alot of the nice features for coin shooting and jewlery hunting but still will get the job done. Bounty Hunter 505 is BH's top of the line detector its not a bad choice for first detector .

If I were you Id go with a Garrett AT Pro contact ED at Big boy Hobbies. Hes got a great deal at 550 shipped and its one of the best out there.

Of the machines listed, Whites GMT if you are serious about gold nuggets.

I am only familiar with the White's MXT as I owned one. Absolutely recommended for a first detector. Lots of options, coils etc make it popular. Plus ability to share readings from other White's detecting buddies.

I would be wary of brands sold in Target, etc like BH's. JMO.
Minelab has some great detectors for reasonable prices. I have one.

Note on mail order detectors:
Some brands (White's I think) do allow their dealers to advertise discounted selling prices. But if you contact or call a dealer and ask if they have any special pricing, then they are allowed to give you whatever deal they have on. Could be free shipping, extra tools etc. But you need to call the. That's what I always do.

This looks like a good deal but call a dealer first. There is a dealer in Idaho I think that specializes in prospecting detectors and also has guided Gold Nugget trips. Alaska, Arizona and Nevada. Check him out!

White's MXT Tracker series. - $600
(Comes with headphones, case, pinpointer, and a DD coil. Excellent condition! Still under warranty until March 2013.)
MXT is a simple yet powerful machine. Many would prefer this detector over other more complicated programmable detectors like DFX or Minelab Explorer. Instead of buttons and menus, MXT is equipped with knobs which makes it a snap to adjust as you go.

Comes with 3 preset modes: Coin/Jewelry, Relic and Prospecting.
Ideal for someone just starting out and Pros alike.

I have the mxt it's a pretty good machine just make sure if you get it get the right coil for your ground or if you want to find nuggets.

Was reading the same thing about its ease of use. Sounds tempting. I am gonna visit that MT store in Golden and see what they have/say. Then maybe buy that one of CL or maybe just buy one new form them.

only one real choice

THE WHITES MXT IS THE ONLY CHOICE YOU ACTUALLY HAVE A COIN AND JEWELRY AS WELL AS A GOLD PROSPECTING MACHINE SPEND THE MONEY ONE TIME AND GET IT ALL ALSO PURCHASE AN ADDITIONAL COIL FROM WHITES WHETHTER IT IS AN 8X14 OR AN 6X10 DD ECLIPSE.
