Hello, got to go to the creek today to a part I couldn't get at last time because of high water...found foot prints. :BangHead: Oh well, as they say they can't find everything (or as I say, just the best stuff lol) .

The first artifact is one that I've found many variations of when I first started hunting (many, many moons ago!) I thought they were just odd not to BE something but I kept every one of them, this one I've never found one like before.
my question what are they called? I've heard Hammerstones, nuting stones, grinding etc? ???

Then the other one I found in a gravel bar falling out of a bank.

Thanks,

8-)

The first one looks like a flint nodule. The soft cortex has been knocked off by the creek action. The second might be the same thing. Lower right looks like a piece of chert/flint also. Gary

Greetings DCSS, nice finds! I especially like that first piece! Best wishes!

The flat one might be a anvil with the divots on it could of been used as a nutting stone. The most distant thought would be fire popped flint from a ancient fire heating the flint maybe you are in a fire pit eroding out of the bank. I have found ancient fire pits in fields all different colors of flint cooked cobbles. The black flint will turn grey on the cortex and makes it look like limestone. But if you crack one open it is clearly flint
