It looks like a one piece lead eagle button... US Army style. BUT - I'd like to see better pics of the back because it also looks like some type of pin, or tiny rosette, or something ?
The lack of details and the difficult to see "features" on the back which are hard to judge causing me to not attribute it to any one thing... .
Re: help iding this button more pics .....1 piece?
heres back pics & front with dime for comparison, found near round balls.
no marks or lettering on the back that i can see.It looks older than the u.s eagle
buttons i've found.

Yep, your right with the timeline crusader, these buttons were cast by the soldiers right in the field just like the bullets, thats the way i understand it .. So some were not always pretty -didnt matter they needed a button..Its not a exact match but is from the same timeline....Hope you get some more!!!
It just looks older than 1860s and it was for sure cast in a mold from the casting lines...I dont think there was a confederate when it was made, unless someone had a 100 year old button mold they used, and that could be the case I have just never seen one of this type construction in the civil war,but the guys could have been hard up for some buttons and did the best they could do...I few old cast pewter 1780s buttons i found by a british fort ....
