Is it an aluminun presidential game token by SHELL OIL?

They gave away promotional tokens in the 60's or 70's.

"against the wind' is correct:
"Introduced in 1968 the Shell Oil Company's "Mr. President" promotional contest tapped into the public fascination with the 1968 Presidential race between former Vice-President Richard M. Nixon and the incumbent Vice-President Hubert Humphrey. The game, as described on the outside of the game card folder shown below was a promotion where customers would receive a free "coin" with each visit to their local Shell Service Station. The "coins" were to be stored on the inside of the center-fold game card (see below) until a winning grouping was assembled. They could then be redeemed for the advertised prize."
Complete info on the game and these tokens can be found here:

Sweet find, they are prolific finds in my area. I dug a cache shell tokens on one permission. It consisted of over 20 of them.

Yep! 1968 for the presidential election. They sound so sweet. Then you see the shine! I have a beat up Taft. Shell had several different contests involving tokens. Pretty cool finds.

Hi. You have a Thomas Jefferson aluminum game piece from Shell's Mr. President Coin Game from 1968. The small numbers under '1809' (end date of Jefferson's presidency) are '1968' which is The Franklin Mint copyright and manufacture date. For the full story on your medallion, go to: Shell's Mr. President Coin Game
