Hi folks,
I'm new here so I hope I get this right. I found a button at a 1820s cellar hole that I am having alot of trouble indentifying. As you see in the photo the outer ring of the backmark has an eagle (I think) with rays coming from its wings. The words DOUBLE GILT and than a rose with stalks coming out the left side and leaves on the right. The inside ring has that French symbol with five 6 pointed stars. The front of the button is plain no markings at all. I had to brighten the image so you may see it better. It is a nice chocolate brown. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to T-Net aragorn!

I was amazed too! Over 140 views and no help? All that means is nobody is able to speak to it, and I just found it. So until someone smarter than I sees it and can help, I'll offer a small amount of information.

The "DOUBLE GILT" is considered a quality mark, but I have no idea as to who made it.
It's a beautiful button... I cannot offer more than I have right now.

If it was my button I would feel very comfortable saying it's early to mid 1800s.
