MD’d this 25 feet from the “Park Guard” button I posted about a few weeks ago. There are so many uniform Eagle Devices it spins my head. If anyone has any knowledge of this one it would be much appreciated. Also- if anyone could refer me to any highly recommend books on button identification (US) to add to my library, I’ll be able to learn for myself!! Thanks for looking! Looks like a general staff button to me. How many stars are there around the edge and can you see any in the top part of the shield. As far as books, I use three. My main one is the "Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons" by Alphaeus H. Albert, commonly referred to as Alberts button book. The second one "Uniform Buttons of the United States" by Warren K. Tice. The third is more for backmarks and it is "American Military Button Makers and Dealers; Their Backmarks and Dates" by William F. McGuinn and Bruce Bazelon.

Great info! Thank you! These books will be added to my library much sooner than my fiancée would like! There are 21 stars around the edge; and there are no discernible stars inside the shield. Under magnification it looks like fine horizontal lines inside the top. -Thank you so much for the information!

Nice find. Certainly looks like a general staff to me as well. Congrats.

When you get Albert's book look up GS-10 on page 291. If there are 4 arrows in the right talon that is your button.
