I don't have a clue what it is. There are no identifying letters or numbers. Its non ferrous, lightweight and if you notice there are eight sections with two styles of arrows. Focus on a single section and you will see one arrow pointing left and two arrows pointing right. Obviously a top to something.
I found it at an old home site (early 1900's), between the back door and the well. There is an early 1800's cabin there as well.

I agree with VHS, possibly a broken doorknob? All the bells (door or bicycle) of the Eastlake or Aesthetic style I recall seeing have either a hole or a threaded portion in the center of the back... which doesn't mean it isn't one.
An inkwell top was my other thought... except without a finial to grab, I doubt it.
