Hi Blazerdig. Mud Hut is correct... your button is definitely a modern (mid-1900s-to-present) button, made for use by the Fashion clothing industry on a "fancy" blazer or sportscoat, etc. The clothing-maker thinks shiny metal buttons with a (fake) Coat-of-Arms or Heraldry emblem makes the coat look like expensive "Fashion" clothing.
A major ID-clue about them is, most of them have a cheap iron back, which is usually either entirely rusted away or heavily rusted. The photo below shows your button's thin iron back, with a cheaply-made crude wire loop that is not even soldered for firm attachment. (Pretty much completely an "El Cheapo" quality of button.)
These fake-Heraldry/Coat-of-Arms emblem Fashion buttons often "borrow" an actual emblem, and sometimes modify it slightly to avoid a Copyright or Trademark lawsuit. Examples are the Royal Black Heath Golfing Club's emblem, the US Navy's eagle-&-anchor emblem, and the British Royal Coat-of-Arms.
The version you found is reported to be a crude representation of the French National Seal, with a Fasces-&-Axe (like on a US mercury dime) and the tiny letters JTE at its center. Your Fashion button gets posted here for ID several times a year, so apparently it was manufactured for many decades.
I see that's your 4th post here at TreasureNet, so, welcome to T-Net's "What Is It?" forum, the best place on the internet to get unknown objects CORRECTLY identified.
