Hey all, first time poster.
My first time in southern Utah and headed to Warner Valley to see the Dinosaur tracks (awesome). Found these stones which looked out of place with everything else. I had read there was petrified wood around the area, but this looks more like blackened sandstone. Found these three pieces spread out over several hundred yards.
The shinier little piece looks the same on the other side as the largest piece; just the one side is shiny and catches the light as you turn it. All pieces have a rough surface, but the surface is not porous and all pieces are very rigid and do not flake. Other than the little stone, top and bottom of the other two stones look the same. The smallest piece is 3/4" long, the largest is approximately 2" square.
Any ideas? The other pic is the largest piece on end.
Thanks!
