Thanks for all the research. I am still unsure however. Looks most like Korean to me from the above links. Any more help appreciated.

Regards

Look closely. In jrlowe's first picture, the symbol on the bayonet (star, with a half-circle surrounding the lower half, and a connecting line at the 6 o'clock position) matches this

from the first bayonet site I posted above.

It's Japanese....

Zephyr's right!

Since John described the mark as "a star within a circle," I assumed the circle was complete, which would be consistent with a Korean mark.

However, here's an enlargement of the mark on his bayonet, and both of the details cited by Zephyr can clearly be seen:

• The circle is not complete. Arrow #1 indicates where it stops.

• There is indeed "a connecting line at the 6 o'clock position," as indicated by arrow #2.

looks like a late war WWII Japanese type 30 Arisaka bayonet with an uncommon maker's mark

mfg around 1944

since it has a straight cross guard [not the hooked style] it's late war

Does that qualify it as last ditch, or is that a bit later. I don't know enough about Japanese WWII weapons to see the quality difference.
