Hey guys!

New to the forum. Found this the other week at the beach.....seems to be copper. Reminded me of electrical ground at first but it seems super old and it's thicker than any wire I've worked with. Looks rivetted on one end and potentially hand forged? Maybe one of you veteran dectectorists have found these before? Any info appreciated. Thanks!!

Hello and welcome! I don't have a clue but it reminds me of a sort of bracket that maybe held a pole in place? Like...a sailboat?

Someone better will come along.

Happy hunting!

I guess you can call an early form of a rivet.
Originally it would have been straight.
It would go through the holes of the the 2 objects to held together, be it boards or metals pieces.
The washer would be put on and end of rivet is hammered flat to secure.

They a common find around here.
I associate them with shipbuilding.

I looks like one of those doohickies that goes through a wooden handle of a shovel, although being copper, I am not sure that it is. Maybe something of a similar nature.

For some reason I think these are telephone pole related.

What Deep1 said... A rivet, being that it was found on the coast and it is copper it probably came off of a boat.
