Hi, I'm posting this for my son Matt. Take it away Matt:

rock.jpg

saturday we were fishing at a creek near my house, while i was wandering off looking for old bottles, i came across a rock thar looked odd. i picked it up and smashed it on a large rock,(that probably was not a smart thing to do ) then i looked at it. it has an outer layer that is easly cracked and breaks, then there is a 2nd layer which is harder, then the inside is a green and has white streaks in it, and it makes a fizzing noise when soaked in water. it was found on a bank of a creek, i live in southeastern PA. any identification on what it is???????

Wow! I'm stumped!

Looks like a half petrified piece of fruit. It shouldn't fizz unless it is porous like a sponge. I would need to see more pics from different angles. Are you sure it is solid rock? How big is it? If it is a rock, it could be a type of chert.

Find a rock shop or a gem and mineral club near you that might help.

Good luck!

Coprolite?

LOL, probably not - unless the dinosaur had soda "poop" for breakfast. :D

Could be about anything unless we get some additional photos of it. Probably the best thing to do is take it to a high school geology teacher or a rock shop or even the local rockhounds club. Look in the yellow pages under geology, that might work too if there is a nearby geologist.

Looks a little like an egg. Try taking pictures of it in water so we can see real coloring. If you can find anyone who can identify, contact extension agent of your state. They should know.
