Could anyone please give me an ID on this? Awhile ago when I asked some said it was one of a pair that would hold a bar to lock barn doors. I don't see that, myself. I can't see that being on a tall post as it is.
If it's hard to tell from tbe pic the top of the stem is squarish. Then it goes round and turns into threads. So I imagine it was meant to stand up a few inches, the round part fitting into a round hole and then the bottom screwed.
Thanks in advance !

wagon hitch ring --the part with the nut on it goes thru a hole in the wagon and then the nut is attached afterwards and the horses or oxen are hitched to the ring part which is at the front of the wagon--note the 4 sided "square" nut --normally means older nut more modern ones are typically 6 or 8 sized.

Awesome, Ty! I was sure it had a specific purpose. I honestly think I have an entire wagon under my front yard, I'm finding it part by part!

the square part on the shaft by the ring is so it will not turn * the hole on he wagon's wood is also square * -- look for "wagon hitch" online --many were blacksmith or home made.--if your finding other wagon related iron type items it makes sense to find this too.

please note * that she says that she has found "other wagon" parts in her front yard * this adds to my belief that it s a wagon hitch.
