A friend of mine found this, not metal detecting. Matter of fact I never did ask her where and how she found it? At any rate, if anyone could help me with an ID it would be greatly appreciated. She said it is silver and she e-mailed a pic of it to a local coin dealer who said he could not remember what it was?

Thanks for any help in advance, Brad

Thanks Don

Reproduction coin made of silver? Most likely coin is made from a silver bar from the Atocha.

I don't know what Don is basing his IMO on? I just got off the phone with the lady and asked her allot of questions as to where she got the coin. She found it laying in her yard, she does not have a metal detector, but after our conversation she told me she wants to start doing it. I will be in her yard in the near future. The town she lives in has 1700's history and would very likely have colonial artifacts there. I believe the coin is a pillar and waves Potosi mint 2 Real? I get this info from this link, Potosi Cob Coins, Potosi mint Cobs

I'm no expert, if anyone that wants to be helpful could enlighten me or help verify my limited research, I would greatly appreciate any help? She (me too) would like to know the value of the coin?

How the coin is worn is a big red flag. The top portion is sharp, but the waves worn, and that is not natural wear for a coin... more like a cast job.

Coming from a man in a full spandex body suit, must know what he's talking about.
Time will tell, the lady and I live in an area where getting coin checked out should not be extremely hard, I just thought it was an interesting find. I also find the opinions that it is a reproduction very interesting. The little town where she found this is very similar to the town where I found my 1/2 Real, both are on waterways that both were the reason they became towns to begin with. Just makes more sense the coin is not a reproduction? I'll update this thread when I find out from the dealers.
