Looks to be made of pig iron/iron. Gentle brush cleaning, hasp on the back was broken as I took it out of the ground. Came out of old farm field that is now soccer field. Thought the place was totally ransacked due to all the clad... then THIS comes out. Any information is appreciated! seems to be iron/pig iron due to its flakiness. star or floral central pattern surrounded by swirls. back has just the hasp (correct name?) was already broken when came out of ground unfortunately. would LOVE to know what time period etc this is from!!! definitely the oldest thing I've found yet. Thanks!

It's an early/Colonial era cast pewter civilian button. A good sign to keep looking.
