Recently saw horse shoe nails made into jewelry.

Your bracelet looks kinda like that, but a spike instead of a nail. Maybe commemorating some kind of freedom from being held down/imprisoned (something anchored by a spike)?

Maybe not literally but figuratively.

Tricia,
Interesting that you said "imprisoned". When I first got the bracelet and ring my thought was that it was a slave ornament. I had a man from India look at it. His belief was that it was from Pakistan. But not a copy or reproduction because of the weight. Again it is around a pound, give or take. And that it came from the palace, (his word) of a Rajah or lessor Noble's household. But I haven't found anythin that is even close on line. I started looking into the jewelry of the Near East. I found some similar markings, but not the type or style. Certainly not the bulk of my bracelet.
The pin is hammered as is the bracelet itself. I will try to post a better pic of some of the engraving and construction. I will take it to the Post Office to get an
exact weight.

Wow, I knew that I would get closer to an ID with your help! Both of these links are the closest that I have seen, anywhere, even our local museum. I hadn't thought African at all because of the markings. I guess that I need to get my head off that narrow track and go look a little closer. My thoughts of an adornment is because there doesn't seem to be enough room for a lock of any kind. Does it look like mine is "cast"? The huge folds inside made me think hammered. I guess that doesn't make sense for the ring though.

Stargate addresses??? Wonder where they would take us, and if we could be wizards or something like that? Break the code and lets give it a go. I am trying to get better pics of the designs. Darn glare obliterates them. Playing with lighting now. Hopefully more to follow.

Following the leads from plehbah and MJ:

Check this site: http://www.coincoin.com/seXX2.htm#WORK

Or Google "Manilla + slave + money".

Very interesting stuff... My (limited) research says that these types of ornaments were used in the slave trade. When slave trading ceased, they were used locally (Africa) for trade or worn to show wealth/status in the community. Yours might be a leg band or ankle bracelet due to the size and weight.

you know i had one simalar to that and we had a heck of a time with ID
finaly we found some dealers who knew the markings and said it was
mayan
thats why they are so smalll the mayan idians were very small people
they were also known for there ability to smith metals.
the bracelet i had was so small i thought it was some kinda towle ring er some thing.
we never did determin the exact make up of the metal
it had silver but looked like it had nikel too.
you might start there.

DONT TAKE THIS MESSAGE WITH SALT IF THAT IS MAYAN IT COULD BE VERY OLD.
ALSO IF YOUR ON A LEAD TO AFRICAN FALLOW IT BUT MAKE SURE YOU CHECK MAYAN TOO .
MINE WAS. I ENDED UP SELLING MINE.
