My father & mother in laws both passed away last year and they are selling their home and farm. Other members of the family got the boxes of the good Indian artifacts. I had one box that was left over that no one wanted that i have some questions on. Any comments on some of these pictures would be helpful. There is a mixture of pottery pieces , arrowheads, tools, etc. and some items I dont have a clue about ...

One that puzzle me is the colored rock of Red & Green. Is that just a type of rock or is that paint or from a hot fire that caused that color? The red color is just on the outside just like it was paint it does not go through the rock only outside. The 2 small items on the picture by them selves are supper light weight and are similar to like lava rocks that are in gas grills. There is also a piece of Quartz or Crystal would that have any thing to do with Indian artifacts?

Any comments on the tools are arrowheads my wife would be interested in hearing about since this was here home places. The area had vast amounts of indian artifacts just in area the size of half of football field. The box I picked up had about 20lbs of chert, flakes, unknown tools in it.

The area is Rowan County outside 5 miles from China Grove, NC

Thanks
Tom

There are definitely arrowheads in your area. Are there any markings on the pottery? Like punctuation marks or fabric impressions? The red ones look like slate to me. They should not have the sharp ridges that I have seen.
But maybe it is just the pictures. Always nice to get something from a relative!
