Hello Guys. I dug this the other day near a horseshoe. It appears to have a head on the end of it..At least that is what it looks like..Either a bird or a horse..Hard to tell with the rust..I have removed as much rust as I can with the stuff I have...Any ideas or links would be greatly appreciated. zaxfire69

Looks like a Hammer from a Flintlock ...

I'll respectfully disagree 8)

The angle seems wrong for a flintlock. I also don't see where the top jaw would have attached. The size is also a little large for a flint hammer. It doesn't seem quite right for a percussion lock either. The attachment point seems right for a lock hammer but nothing else about it does. If indeed it is a hammer maybe it's from a "one off" gun or a special model. I still believe it's from something else though.

Wow...Missourians sure are respectful!!!!!!! We're apparently also the only ones with nothing better to do today.

I am also kinda leary about the hammer. It is rather thick and heavy. 4.2oz and is about 1/2 inches thick..

Also in the process of cleaning off. Found the wire wheel that goes to my drill. I am charging my drill to remove more of the rust. Have it soaking in Vinegar right now. Will update later.

 I can still type faster than you guys  I am going to clean the RELIC up for you guys. Soak it in some olive oil overnight. Take a picture of it and post in the morning. How does that sound. I also cleaned up the old Horseshoe I found beside it as well.

I may have to agree with you guys on this one. It could possibly be part of an old broken hook from an old chain. Be it a nasty break...More pics..
