HELP ID Pat. Mar. 30 1869 Glass Lamp?

Does anyone have any idea what this is? The inside is hollow like a lamp reservoir and it appears to be missing a lid for the hole. Marked Patented Mar. 30 1869

It is 4 1/2" in diameter and 3" tall.

It is really hard to do research on a piece of something that is completely out of context.

More info gives is a better chance to ID the relic.

This person is calling it an inkwell with pen holder. It just doesn't look right to me, unless it has/had a bottom that screws on to hold the ink. Does it have threads as it appears to? ANTIQUE INKWEKK WITH PEN HOLDER PATENTED MARCH 30. 1869 (02/01/2013)
