HELP ID METAL HANDLE

found this metal handle which i thought was a knife blade before i found the 3 holes in it. It has a beveled edge but is thick and weighs 4.23 oz , my property was an old farm about 100-200 years ago . any help would be appreciated

From the photo it's hard to tell, but does the beve lcontinue around the whole handle? A bevel like that is often seen on a strap hinge or shutter hinge. Could it be broken on one end?

the bevel does go around the knife blade side more prominent then the other side there defiantly is a flat side facing down in the photo and a beveled side ( facing up on the photo) the bevel is very dramatic on the Tanto portion of this piece which is why i thought it was a knife blade at first
