Luckily the Broadaxe is in very good condition and the markings are still legible. From what I can tell, it says "Blodgett Edge Tool MFG Cast Steel Warrented G. Reynolds. Also, there are marks or initials closer to the blade that I can't quite read. From the research I've done I know George Reynolds was the superintendent of Blodgett from 1856 - 1860. I know in 1862 the Blodgett Co was purchased by Amoskeag Axe Co. The Amoskeag Company was producing tools into the 1870s. My questions - are the markings on the axe enough to narrow down the date of Manufacture to between 1856-1860? See photos for markings. I would think that if his name is on it, he was there when it was made as he is warranting it. WHen he left someone else took that place.
IMO

Cheers

Where did you find it? Surely the wood part of the handle hasn't lasted from the 1700's.

I found it in southeastern CT. I don't think it's from the 1700s. Read my original post and all the info I have so far is listed there.
