Can anyone help ID this button? (see attached photo)

One-piece, not sure if it used to be two-piece but it's blank on front.
Backmarks: A.BENEDICT, WATERBURY, TREBLE
Not sure if it says anything under the clasp which is bent over flat
Slight gilding remaining on back

Best I can tell from the internet is that Waterbury used the marking "AARON BENEDICT" from 1812 to 1823 and "A. BENEDICT & CO." from 1823 to 1829. Couldn't find exactly "A.BENEDICT".

Any significance to the backwards "N"? Is that typical or a flaw?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Buckram,
Thanks for the ID. I'm going with the assumption that the backwards "N" is a flaw, until somebody comes along and says they have one, too. Antiques Roadshow, here I come! :D
