Hello, my girlfriend found this coin and I was hoping somebody could help us identify it. It was found at a fur trade area so I'm assuming Canadian origin. It is dated 1806 with a rather chubby fellow on it. Above the face I can just see an S followed by III. Any help would be great!

Thank you,
Ryan

It appears to be either a 1 Penny or 1 Halfpenny from Great Britain. The dates put it in the reign of George the III

The full obverse (head) legend reads: GEORGIUS III . D: REX. The legend on the reverse is BRITANNIA which is in an arc at the top of the coin.

look like a british king george the III 1806 half penny to me

It appears to be parabolical in shape, black, with a mans head on one side and a woman with a spear and shield on the other. Or in other words, I have no idea. I'm just bored.

Thanks for all the help on IDing this. I could honestly care less about the monetary value on it. I just love the history. In the last week we've found 3 trade axes, 2 coins, a wedding ring, a religious pendant, some hide scrapers, and a couple dozen trade buttons and musket balls. It's a great feeling pulling this stuff out of the ground!

Thanks again,
Ryan
