I was cleaning out my grandfather's garage before it was being torn down and found this spoon up against the back wall on a shelf. The spoon is fairly heavy, and has "U.S." engraved on the front side of the handle and "WALLACE N.S." on the back side of the handle. When I first found it there was a green tint to the spoon, but after cleaning it the spoon is a somewhat dull silver color. I was hoping someone here could help me identify this spoon, or point me in the direction of someone else who could.

Re: Help - I Found a Spoon

Wallace was a maker of silver & utility ware in the NE. Can't remember just where right now. The NS mark means Nickle Silver, which is actually an alloy with no silver in it. Neat spoon.

Re: Help - I Found a Spoon

I agree with the Mess Hall liberation. My dad was in the Navy and when he and my mom were first married that's all they had for silverware in the early days. They still had some when I first got married and they passed on what they had left to me, only mine were marked USN on the handle, but they looked just like the one in the picture. Nice find!
