Hello All, Found this the other day in same area I found my U S Buckle and nice possible French triangle base Bullet. I have never seen one except the three I see in my book, what I have looks similar in shape but I can't see any threading, it looks to be cast iron and it is 1-1/2" long and about a 1-1/8" diameter. Thanks for any info came up with. HH. JYD

I have run it through my book "Artillery Fuses of the Civil War". Let me say up front I am no expert on fuses although I have found a few. My opinion is that this is not a fuse because of the lack of threads and the top doesn't look like it would take a wrench to tighten it down. But it does look close. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will come forth.

Looks like a lock cylinder to me. like from an auto glove box or console.

That was my first thought also. The groove in the third pic is identical to the ridge on a core of a wafer lock used on auto doors, trunks and glove boxes.

Thats the same thing that first popped into my head!!! an glove box or old ignition switch cylinder!!!! dash mount maybe. its an interior piece because it does not look like it had any kind of chrome or nickel on it just black paint!
