Great night tonight..

Uncovered my 4th Georgian Half Cent ! This one is in good shape (compared to others I found).

Can anyone help ID the date? I Based on the examples Google show, it would appear to be a 1730 as the face is pointed left. It kinda looks like a 1770 but the face on that year pointed right. Can anyone confirm ?

I can read 1730 pretty clearly
Thanks GatorBoy,

Ya you know I thought so, but since that is what I really wanted it to be.. I wasn't sure if I was just projecting that date on there..

I had trouble seeing the first 1 but could see a 7 & the 0 clear. The 1st and 3rd digits escape me..

cool find. I wish there was stuff that old where I live

Nice old copper! I'm seeing 1770, but it's a little hard to tell. Great find!

Very nice find!

Congrats on an awesome coin.

Does anyone know the history around these old British coins?

I know this has got to be connected to the Revolutionary war.. I'm in CT and know that a lot of the activity was between New York and Boston. Do you think this coin came over here in the pocket of a British soldier looking to claim our lands..?

Love this hobby.

It's actually pretty simple.... we were not a country yet and not making our own coinage... this was what was carried. The Revolutionary War was several decades later than this coin was minted

War was later but coin was no doubt still in heavy circulation. In fact, finding a George II copper for me here is one of the best signs to indicate the possibility of Rev War buttons. But it's true, there's really no way to know unless it's dug in a Rev War camp or something like that.

What makes the Colonial period so fascinating is the variety.

Fantastic old copper! There might be another one - make sure you grid that spot out and find it! Best of luck.
