Help a newbee I don't know what I have found

I found this statue while snorkeling in Porto Rico. It is about 7.5 inch high and made of poured metal with a round base when I scratched away some of the coral the metal was very shiny silver and when you tap the statue it rings nice and clear. I have found a picture of Ioe a greek princes and the face is an exact match. I am new to treasure hunting and don't know how to tell what metal it is and what is really or why it was were it was. please help if you can. Also is there some way to tell if the metal is silver or not.
Thank for all the help
I didn't find it near a cruise dock but who knows. I have thought about pewter. As for lead it is not soft at all. I am so glad I found this forum with all the help you folks are offering. I am going to a different Island in february with a new detector and big dreams.
Thanks again
bml

It looks really interesting.

First thing that comes to mind is that you should not clean it.

Wait until you can get someone to positively ID it, first.

Don't lose track of that location!

Could be a very good thing for you.

The head looks to be slightly tilted to its right, reminiscent of the Greek statues & busts... I'm thinking one of the relic hounds on here can work up some beneficial info on it, just be patient...

P.S. Can you also post a reverse pic of the statue, as well as an aerial & downward shot?

Too Tarnished to Make me think Silver.

Looks more like Lead to me,
But Lead would be Soft.

Great find.

I do not know what it is but it is a great find nonetheless. I would not clean it nor tell anybody where you found it. If you tell, you could lose a great treasure spot. I also would check the area that it came from very, very carefully for more artifacts/relics.

By the way, I forgot the most imporatant thing. Welcome aboard. Glad to have you with us. Don't hesitate to ask us any questions at all about treasure hunting/metal detecting.

think pewter -- harder than lead and silverish in tone. --- hummm did you find it near a cruise line docking area? --- lots of greeks work on cruise ships --- perhaps its a offering to the "sea" of some sort ---just a very wild guess --- Ivan

I almost said lead too... in fact I modified my post a couple of times with it in it, then out again. But I realized he said that "it rings nice and clear", which I thought would indicate that it wouldn't be lead, right?? Maybe I'm wrong.

Pewter would definitely carry a tone, and still keep the same color...
