Ok, these sites have loads of pictures, but no explanations, I know the front piece means something, and so does the steel spike and the colored discs on the sides

This might help pin down the year. 6c4ssn9.jpgAlso some I saw had the year inside the helmet, stamped in the metal.

It's a Model 1895 or Model 1915 Pickelhaube, WW1 era. I'm not as well educated on these as I'd like to be, so I'm not sure which. Nice find if it's real, there are a lot of very convincing fakes out there. I would suggest getting a membership at the Wehrmacht Awards forum and posting it in the Imperial German militaria section
