Hello all,

I am an outdoors person and have picked up quite a bit of interesting rocks, however this particular rock has got me curious. I have never seen one like this before and I am wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it. I went with my boyfriend to Branson Missouri a couple of years ago and we stayed at a place there on the river ( I believe... I will check and see if I can get a more specific location). I took off walking one day on the bank and came across this rock. It was quite heavy to carry back considering I had wondered quite a ways away from the place we were staying but it was too interesting to leave. Anyways, any insight would be appreciated, as to how it was formed, or if anyone else has come across something similar. 20200304_034627[1].jpg

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard small town! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE) - members may have more success helping you (your location may help, etc.)...

It appears you have a cave formation, speleothems, that has eroded out of its cavity. Its related to a stalagmite, a lower cave formation, that forms in a bowl type. I've seen these alive, yours has been weathered quite a bit, and the center is usually smooth in appearance as are the sides and they occur in flow stone. Because they form in layers yours appears to have broken out of its host rock.
