Hi there,
For a very long time I have been absolutely fascinated with history, I love visiting museums of all kinds, etc. Recently I've become interested in seeking lost "treasure" or antique items using metal detectors.
While doing some research, it became clear very fast that it is not easy to choose the right metal detector for your specific goal. When I first looked at metal detectors, I discovered most of the cheaper ones don't even penetrate the ground, which I found a little silly. Nothing from long ago is going to be sitting on the surface of the ground, it'll obviously be somewhat beneath the many years of sand, dust, dirt etc. So, I would like to request your help choosing the right detector for my purpose (finding antiques/"treasure"), and my budget, approx. $400.00 CAD.
I live in a somewhat historical city, around since 1841. There are probably huge amounts of antique and interesting items all over the place, especially in the oldest parts of town. But they won't be on the surface, they'll be buried to some extent. So, I need a metal detector capable of picking up items buried from about 170 years ago. What detectors could you guys/gals recommend for this purpose fitting (as close as possible) my budget of $400 CAD? Since I'm new I'm more interested in getting the best value, the biggest bang for my buck.
Anyway thank you very much for any help and advice you provide!
Cheers!
Simon B.
