Hello, I'm headed to Nome!

Well howdy folks,

I have poked around the country a little bit getting some specks here and there. Now after seeing those TV shows, I'm all riled up about going to Nome and trying some Bering Sea prospecting.

I'm a teacher and have the summers off. So I don't need to make any money the first year. Looks like some of those guys make double my income in half the time. I hope to get to that point some day. For 2014, I just want to learn and have fun. I'm already scuba certified.

I'm looking for some other guys headed that way. Either to pool our resources or just for camaraderie once we get there.

Greetings and good luck. One thing check out the claims and claim system way before you proceed further. I believe that might be an issue.

The DNR website has a great factsheet for Nome. Says there are 570 acres available to recreational miners for $50 per year per dredge. I know I have much more research to do; which is one reason I'm here.

Welcome. From what I've seen on those shows, there isn't many making money doing it. Looks too much like work to me!

It looks like fun on tv, but Nome is an expensive place to live.

Both me and my brother are going up there also. We are going to talk to a guy that has a old tug boat for sale. If everything works out we will need 2 more divers so we can have a 24 hr crew. PM me if you are really Interested in going. We also don't plan on buying anything in nome as in food or anything. I'm going to get at least $5000 In food before we leave Oregon. So the only thing we will have to buy once there would be fuel and a water refills. 3000 gal fuel and 1000 gal water tanks installed on the boat.
