All Treasure Hunting
Hey all, my name is Lukas and I live in Sarasota Florida for almost 20 years...about a week ago I became very interested in metal detecting. After watching several videos and read about what metal detecting is and how to do it, I became addicted before I even bought one. A few days later I bought an Ace 250 from a local Garrett dealer. I held off on buying a pin pointer as it was in my next pay checks budget. I did get a beach scoop and today was my first day using it. I did some research and planned for this morning at 730 am at siesta key beach since it was low tide. Had an awesome time, didn't find much and didn't really expect to seeing as the weather is cold. Regardless, I was out there for a good 6 hours and would have stayed long except that my right arm feels like I've been doing one armed push ups Arnold style. Half the day I spend at siesta, then took a 30 minute break ate some lunch and went to Turtle beach where I figured I would find older stuff since it has more shells and has heavier and higher mass deposits like rocks. I definitely learned a lot about my detector and after a few hours got pretty consistent at predicting what I would dig...Still, I dug it all...Mostly foils at siesta, lots of iron at turtle. Found a couple of interesting things including what looks like bullet shells, a gold-colored bead, quarter, a 1941 nickel, a regular dime, couple fish hooks, 2 pull tabs, plenty of bottle caps, hair pins, buttons, what looks to be a metal name charm make out of a copper type metal, a necklace that I thought was silver because it had a mark on it but the detector kept saying it was foil, looks like it was recently lost. Anyway, had a great time and already thinking about going out again. Today was my first real attempt at it since I bought the unit on weds and I work mon-fri I was only able to use it in my yard at night for a few minutes. So far I love this hobby and have already called my local dealer to order me a pro pointer as park hunter is a HUGE pain in the butt in SW Florida with all the heavy roots and mineralization. But I love it and am planning on taking a trip to Georgia next weekend after I get my pro pointer to go old site digging. Can't wait! So nice to meet you guys and I look forward to sharing good times with you all. :hello2:

Welcome aboard!

Fellow newbie here. You're one step ahead of me in already having a detector! Still trying to figure out a budget for one, so I can buy and get started!

Welcome aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Florida for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Hello and welcome.

Welcome to TN, please don't find my stuff, okay?

Welcome. The hobby is fun, educational, healthy and addicting. You will learn something knew all the time. Your machine, the tides, where to go etc, etc. I have been detecting for years and never get tired of it. Even if you are having a bad day, your will be getting some fresh air and some exercise. I live in WI but will be visiting Siesta Keys in about 3 weeks (I will be the pale white guy). Hopefully we will run into each other and I will help you with any questions you might have.

Welcome to Tnet from N. Mississippi.

I have done a little fishing in that area but that was before I got into detecting. Hey I believe that I read somewhere that Spanish shipwreck coins were found on Anna Marie Island just north of Siesta Key years ago. Anna Marie is less crowded and just as beautiful. You might want to check it out. Maybe we can hunt together the next time I come down. Good luck and enjoy my friend!

hey hey from Lee County.

Thanks for the reply guys. Seems like a great community. I would be more than happy to go hunting with anyone down in my area... Lonewolfdigger and I C THE LITE, let me know when you are down lukas_cacko@hotmail.com

Great tips for Anna Marie, I have been out there in the past and you are right, other than boaters and jet skiers there's not many people swimming and it's calm so I will definitely put that in my next weekends schedule. The only thing I'm concerned about and a little unprepared for really, is that so far the Ace 250 does a rather unimpressive job in salt water or even very wet sand...Perhaps I have my settings incorrect. I found that out the hardway, after getting a ghost signal in wet sand yesterday I dug a hole...And kept digging...and kept digging, kept getting it...1 foot, 2 foot, 3 foot....4 feet into the dig when people passing by commented "are you looking for dinosaur bones?" That's when I looked at the whole situation and thought "hmmmm...." Anyway, long story short, I thought I hit some kind of freaking luxurious treasure chest because the signal was huge, strong, and 10 foot square area, coincidentally the same area of the very wet sand...Needless to say I covered up the embarrassing evidence and casually paced towards the fluffy white sand where my noobie ass belongs.

Anyway, I am actually heading out right now to the beach again. Happy hunting all.

Hello from Tennessee, and Welcome to the site ....
I have the Ace 250,and have used it once at my moms place in Englewood,FL, not too far from you.
I live in Tennessee, and mostly hunt woods and parks, which is a different setup.
Here is a video, that will help you with the settings,on wet and dry sand.
And remember, the housing is not waterproof ,only the coil and shaft is.
Enjoy...
