Hello from San Francisco, CA. I'm only 19, but have been finding treasures since I was about 5. It started out with finding obsidian flakes in the Sierras, then escalated to arrowheads :) My late grandfather was mildly obsessed with Native American culture and collected baskets and arrowheads. He and my grandmother would go on backpacking trips in the Sierras and find tons of arrowheads and other cool items. They passed this on to my father and in turn to me. I never did get a chance meet my grandmother, but everyone who knew her said that I must be her reincarnation, something that I take as a high compliment. She was an active member in the Marin Archaeological Society and just loved the outdoors. One of my favorite finds of hers is a beautiful native American ceremonial blade

Anyways, throughout the years I've made a handful of interesting finds. When I was eight, I found a silver 75th Anniversary of the Donner Party commemorative ring near an old ghost town. When I was on a 4th grade field trip to Angel Island, I found a .58 caliber 'star base' bullet. Finally, for Christmas in 2007, my parents got my younger brother and myself each a Fisher F2. My brother wasn't so into it, but I had a ball. My favorite find was a penny with Lincoln's head shot through! I took a break from relic hunting for a couple of years in high school, but have recently gotten back into the game. My newest passion is bottle digging! I move to Pensacola, Florida in June to live with my boyfriend and met a ton of wonderful bottle lovers out there who were more than happy to point me in the right direction and even take me along on some hunts! I came back to the city in September for family birthdays and, while on a 4 wheeling trip, came across an old gold mine!!!! Back in the game! Sadly, I didn't have time to actually hunt it, but I can't wait to go back. Also, my parents have a cabin up in Arnold, CA (in Calaveras County) and during a visit up there this past weekend, I managed to convince my dad to buy a metal detector and come hunting with me. We found some AWESOME sites that I can't wait to spend some time on. Sadly, I'm headed back to Florida on the 29th, so we are kinda out of time. Luckily, it appears my dad has caught the bug as well and he wants to do a 2 day trip later this week---I'm not complainin'!
Anyways, yesterday I decided to pull my old Fisher F2 out and walked down to Golden Gate Park where an old casino once stood. Believe it or not, I found a musket ball! I was psyched!
I've been wanting to upgrade my metal detector, but for now I'm somewhat strapped for cash. My dad is planning on getting a Teknetics T2 Ltd so maybe he'll let me borrow that (or the Gamma 6000 he's currently using!) Happy hunting! Oh yeah, and if there is anyone in the Bay Area, I'm looking for hunting buddies for my dad :)

Welcome Amanda! That is a great intro. Looks like your are very successful and resourceful. We need to work on an upgrade for you - once Daddy gets that T2 LTD, he will be running circles around you

It's a great hobby when we can share it with those that we love!

The future of our hobby is in good hands...welcome to tnet and good luck!

Welcome from Salinas, CA (~ 2 hr. south of SF). Lots of good hunter friends up there. Lots of old park turf to choose from. And a variety of old-town urban demolition projects always seem to get going over time. No indian stuff around there though, but there are bottle enthusiasts who dig the old-town demolition sites, when any open up. If you get on the kinzli forum (which is specific to just CA hunters), you'll meet some of the md'rs and bottle hunters from that area.
