Hi there - I recently moved to Idaho, and love to hike and have always been interested in rock hunting. I was given a metal detector just before moving here and thought I'd try hiking with it and seeing what I could dig up. I live on the edge of the Boise National Forest, and as it turns out, about 2 minutes from one of the largest historical gold deposits in Idaho, Grimes Creek. I was thinking about taking the detector and a gold pan out to some of the old creek beds that I come across while hiking. I don't know much about the detector I have though...
The metal detector I have is a White's Eagle II with a Bluemax 950, which has never been used. My uncle bought three with the idea of he and his family using them and they ended up in a closet - so he offered me one after cleaning out the closet. I cannot find much information about it online, and it seems a bit more complicated than I would expect. I'm curious to learn if it's good for finding bits of gold and how to get it setup.
I came here to learn what I can about the hobby, and I enjoy reading the adventures of others on this board. Maybe I'll have some good stories to share of my own someday...
Thanks!
