Well... I've finally decided to get back into MD'ing. Did this alot with my father when I was a kid (many, many years ago..lol) and was always fancinated with ANY finds although we never really found anything of value. I cherish those memories as he is no longer with me. Anyway, I decided my buy the White's Coin Master GT a few weeks ago (Boy.. detectors sure have come a long ways since I used one). This is a really nice machine and I'm now learning it's features and quirks.
Ok... so just to give a little background and where I hunt. I live in eastern NC on the Pamlico river. As you Civil War buffs know, Washington (NC) was a battle event (and some small scrimmages in the sourrounding areas). So, with detector in hand I started searching my own property behind my house that has been family owned since the 1940's and virgin ground as I can tell. I'm finding some pretty interesting stuff. Mostly junk iron (I'm guessing) and some expected modern stuff. I'm going to post several finds in the "What's this" forum in hopes that someone can help ID some items. I am finding a bunch of flat buttons, a tombac button (needs ID), corroded coins, a 1911 V nickle, several 4" railroad spikes and so forth. As I mentioned, I live on the Pamlico river and I just don't see why railroad spikes (12 found and counting) are in my back yard. I live on a dead in road and this is a mystery to me (which I truly like). Oh.. also I'm not too far at all from Camp (Fort) Hill (Beaufort County). I can see the point of the camp from the river bank.
Sorry for the long post (I love to talk MD'ing) and will post picks of my finds. Also I will show a huge embarrassment to a coin that I found in the corn field next to my house. I will get bashed for this and rightly so.
