Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I've been detecting for around three months now and every time is better than the last, regardless of finds. Each time it seems to take me out of the present and into the past, even if only for 10 or 15 minutes. I've hunted my yard mostly, but it suits me fine because it's pretty big and my house has been here for over a hundred years by this point. I've also hunted an old school and a small mill town frequently where I'm from with a population of with way less than a thousand so its a pretty neat little community to do some relic hunting in.

My best two finds came about a month and a half into my newly found metal detecting obsession. While checking out the area next to my front porch under a beautiful dogwood tree for some shady detecting on a hot day, I got a really solid hit about 15 feet away from the first step onto my porch and into the ground I went. My girlfriend had just stepped outside to see what all I was finding when the plug I had just dug up, gave birth to a beautiful 1854-1860 South Carolina button. Thing only thing I could think to say was, "I think I just found my first button." I sat for the next hour doing research and staring at it.

After my first great find I was overcome by a need to dig some more so after thoroughly combing the area, I headed to the mill town and stopped at a newly developed park for the community that is where two old boarding houses once were. My first hit was pretty solid and a kid walked over to scope me out, so I proceeded to dig my first object while explaining what I was doing. Out pops a penny and I'm keeping my cool, and then I see its a wheat so then I start to get really happy because its my first. After closer inspection I see it's a 1909 and I'm overjoyed because after the math it's 105 years old. Needless to say, I played the air guitar on my detector to the kids amusement but it was worth it! In my ignorance, I must admit, I had no idea it was a significant year. I was just so happy to find something so old. After closer inspection, it revealed itself to be an S mint so that made it even better. No V.B.D but it doesn't matter to me, beggars can't be choosers.

After poking around a bit more I found my first buffalo nickel and another horse shoe to add to the collection. All in all, it was a terrific day and not one I shall soon forget. Thanks for reading, HH and God Bless!

I apologize because there are no pictures. My tnet app keeps crashing when I try to add an attachment to my post. I will try again to upload the pictures tomorrow.

Nice finds! You beat me on the Lincoln cent by 1 year, i found a 1910 across the street from my apartment next to a park last year. It's so awesome to pull something thats over a century old! Happy hunting, hope you find more awesome treasures!

This is such an addicting hobby and it seems you've got it as badly as I do. You're on your way to a great collection.
