Hi everyone! I live in Burke County NC and have been lurking your forum for several weeks and thought I would join. I have a creek on my property that my son and I have been cleaning up/trying to get a handle on the erosion and found a nice pottery shard. Have lived here since 1993 and never saw anything relating to native americans or otherwise until then and started googling "pottery shards" which led me to this forum with all the great info. Well, after that I have found numerous points and maybe some tools. I have found out that this area I live in was home for the Catawba indians and down the road abit was North Carolina's gold rush areas.

Anyway...hello everyone! :hello:

You might consider browsing Sub-Forums: North Carolina for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

welcome sounds like a great spot for you and the son

Welcome aboard! Sounds like you have a nice area to "hunt" :)...

Hey back at you from Chatham county N. C. Welcome. Burke is a place with a lot of possibilities. In addition to the Native American artifacts and gold you already mentioned, Burke is one of only 3 or 4 counties in North Carolinz where diamonds have been found-just 2 or 3 but that doesn't mean there couldn't be substantially more. There is a you-tube video of a guy with a huge purported diamond he claims to have found in North Carolina- though of course he never gets more specific than that. The stone he is showing is about 40 carats which is ginormous for anywhere in world but especially nc as known finds have mostly been in carat or less range. It probably makes me the most gullible person in the world but for some strange reason I actually tend to believe him. Anyway the diamonds in Burke county were if memory serves me correctly- found around Brindle Creek- something like that. No diamonds have officially been found in North Carolina since the 1890's - those I believe as a by product of gold prospecting. Don't forget about sapphires either lots of them in the foothills and western part of state. Though quality is enormously variable. Good luck - happy hunting.
