Hello, Australian in France sending everyone A big Gi'day'bonjour!

Hello everyone,

I love treasure hunting, watching shows of tresure hunting, dumpster diving. Everything! I love the thrill of what could be there! Which is why I love living in France because I really could find something in a market or in the ground that is from the medieval period (my favorite era).

I don't own a metal detector but would love to learn and buy one sometime. At the moment I go to brocantes (car boot sales) here in France and bring make a swag load of interesting items for a few euros.

I would much preferr to find something on the street (there are twice yearly curb pickups here so its great to collect heaps of great items for free off the curb), or buy something second hand and unique than shop at Ikea.

When I feel the items I have I love to imagine where they have been!

I love history and am majoring in history and french, have three kids and a leonberger, and ten tetras :).

I am also a rock hound!

Looking forward to learning from you all here.

regards
Jay

Hello Jay! sounds like the title for a new show "an Aussie in Paris" sounds like you are having fun! I hope your family joins you in some of your adventures, tho I'd leave the kids at home while dumpster diving. you are certainly in a good area for history, but what are the regs like for digging over there?

Well, yes you are in an interesting country. The "boot" sales(you and the Brits both call the trunk that?)are fun and you realize that you can jump on a train and be in England ( I recommend the Portobello Antique Market in London-like a giant flea market)or Germany in a short time. Hope you enjoy the study of history too. Have fun.

Thank you for the warm welcome Mamabear and Austin. Mamabear i have not tried my hand at detecting yet so not sure what the rules are. I am going to join some french deteching forums and go from there. Austin, I would love to check out markets all over europe. I imagine that england might be picked clean however? I am lucky in france because the french themselves dont really like old stuff and there are not many english where I live.

regards
Jay
