Total Newbie from PA. I'm fascinated by history and anything old. Thought metal detecting would be a great hobby for me. Must admit, I do feel a bit nerdy out in public with my detector.. Lol.

Hi Holly, welcome from N.Y. state !! Don't worry about the nerdy feeling. It will go totally away the first time you find something you really like. I remember a bunch of years back when I got a friend of mine interested and he got his first machine. A week or so later I went over to his house and his wife was there. She told me she was driving down the road and saw one of those nerdy weirdos metal detecting in the local school field then she realized it was her own husband. She didn't think he was so weird when he started finding silver coins and jewelry!!
