I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Chris and I hail fro the beautiful state of Kentucky. I am relatively new to the hobby of detecting and have so much to learn about this great hobby. I've always been interested in it though, and finally I got a detector for my birthday this year, a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 535. Nothing fancy, but I love it!! Haven't really found anything of value yet, I first need to get used to using the thing. I've just been sorta messing around with it in the yard and such. I look forward to all the information I'm gonna be privy to on this great site.

Welcome Chris......Kentucky should have some great places to hunt. Good luck to ya!! Don't get discouraged on not finding valuables....lots of pop tops and trash to dig first. Remember the 3 P's of detecting...Perseverance - Persistence - Patience. ;)

Hi Chris....Welcome...It's very easy to get discouraged with this hobby...I'm in kind of a slump right now...and I've been at this for 19 years....Keep pushing and before long the good stuff will come your way..

Woodsie :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Welcome! I started with a BH too! I even found a 1906 Barber Dime with it. Hang in there, have some fun and soon you will start finding a few things here and there; that will keep you going. Get on the TNet forum when you can and you will learn a lot. Best regards from Kalifornia.

Hi chris welcome aboard,I also started with a bountyhunter found lots...the more you learn your machine the better you will do.

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome! I'm pretty stubborn, or so I've been told, so maybe I'll do okay at this metal detecting thing!! I'm getting ready to go to my Great, Great Grandfather's old home place maybe this weekend (finals will be over, yes!!) that's very near where I live, my mom now owns the property with the recent passing of my Grandfather, and I know I'll find something there. I'll let you folks know when I do!!

Welcome Chris to this wonderful addiction of metal detecting.Good luck on your hunt this week-end,post us some pics.Lots of good people here and info.Take care.

I'm very new to the board and to detecting too, but have already found some very neat items.

When you say "I know I'll find something there", I believe that's when it'll happen for ya
I hope you find loads of interesting stuff!

Thanks so much for your kind words. It was a devastating loss for sure, but he wouldn't want us to sit around and mope about it. I'm sure he'll be there with me as I search. :) I'm sure I'll find somethin!! Even if it's just some old Indian Head Pennies or something like that, I'll be totally elated!!

Hello and welcome to the forum. There are a ton of people on here from KY so there maybe someone that lives close by you. I have in-laws down around E-Town and in Lexington like to find someone near one of those spots that I could hunt with sometime. Have a couple of people that live within 100 miles of either spot. If you could hook up with a veteran hunter you could really get a lot of experience. There is no substitute for swinging the coil though as well as reading in the forum Gl.....Shoot
