heel or toe plate?

I've seen the ones posted that are from the 19th century era and they have holes in them for the nails/tacks to attach to the shoe/boot.
Are the following just newer, as they are all in one piece? Or is this something different? These were found stuffed away in an old carriage house. Certainly too small for Equine use. There were two different sizes.

My dad sold those in his shoe shop. They were called taps and prevented heel wear. In the 50's & 60's they were popular with the boys that wore boots, made a lot of noise in the high school hallway ;D ;D

I know this has already been solved but what the heck. :) Here is an listing from my shoe book. There are 5 sizes and they are old, judging by the cork top bottle on the same page. Those are in beautiful condition.
