I found this ring but can't identify the hallmark or what it means.
The ring looks plated with a very light yellow alloy (maybe gold) over what looks like a silver base.

I know the 3 means it was made in Taxco Mexico, but the little hallmark is indistinguishable to me.
I can't find anything that looks like it. It doesn't appear to be numbers like .925 (the decimal is in the wrong place if its poorly stamped numbers).
It kind of looks like an animal but at this point I am just not sure.

Can anybody help?

ism...if you steamed it or cleaned the heck out of it we may see the makers mark better,it may be a hallmark

Bigfoot, I believe you are accurate in identifying it as the makers mark. I opened the ring at the seam because it was already cracked and used a loupe to magnify it better.
I also cleaned it like you recommended. I just cannot make out what the characters are except that the first looks like it might be a "J". I have searched sites for Mexican hallmarks for Taxco and Hecho but cannot find any marks that are similar.

It has me curious as I find it doubtful that they would add identifying marks like this if it wasn't a precious metal. Maybe the design with the 3 in the center defines the alloy?
Thanks for any help. It seems that Hecho De Mexico is very popular like Tiffany from what I see on the web.

can't see pattern on ring , ring stamp (hallmark) should identify the silversmith, however I can't see it in the image...the ring is sterling silver, and from your discription also gold inlay. sorry can't make out the makers mark.

I could be way wrong but maybe it's an eagle? It was used between 1948 and 1970 for taxco jewelry.
