Went to an older baseball field today. We had some heavy rain yesterday, so the ground was really saturated. Found a couple of bucks in clad, but nothing older than the 1970's. But I did find a really old suspender clip that was around 6 inches down. It has a patent date of March 7, 1871, so it's probably from the mid to late 1870's! Not a bad day when you find something that's around 145 years old.

Cleaned up fairly well with a warm hydrogen peroxide bath, but the iron or steel clip that was attached to the bottom fell off. Here's few pics:

Excellent find. I love those and yours looks to be in great shape.

Thanks, guys! I know suspender clips aren't that thrilling, but the 1871 patent date makes it a good find. I only dig one or two of these a year, so not a common find for me.

Actually they are very good finds. When i first started digging in the early 70's, I would find them sometimes and just toss them away. Later I decided that I liked them and start keeping them and collecting them too. I used to buy them at civil war shows for 50 cents to a dollar. Now you can't even buy one for under 5 dollars and I've seen them for sale lately for 20 dollars or more. Look at ebay and you will see that they are getting quite valuable.

Nice find especially with the patent date on it. :icon_thumright:
