Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
I went back to the distillery site today, the corn was off. I looked up some information on the old village for the owner of the fields, he was happy to get the material. He mentioned that he had acouple old bricks with the makers name on them, he gave me the one shown here. Out to the field to look for some lost treasure, lots of broken red brick peaces, and lots of aluminum peaces off some one's house, there were many in this field... I learned the sound of these items to lock onto the good targets, there were few good sounds, but I got this sound like dig me, well I was down about 10 " and then I saw this round ball, another cannon ball, well sort of maybe. It weighs 24 pounds, it must have been a pulley weight of some type, still a interesting find. And last are the two parts of barrel spigots, I wish that they were whole but still a find. I am going to look though some of my junk bag to see if I might have a small spigot end, and try to match up the two. Nt I goofed on the weight of the ball, my scales were on the tilt. :icon_scratch:

The Barrel Taps are very common here, almost always in the vicinity of Barcelona which was a very prosperous city during the 19th century, a time of greater diffusion of the Barrel Tap. and were discarded in these fields I have them by the hundreds, but as the you is difficult to find complete.
I like the iron ball.

I have a couple whole ones, the one has the tap broken off and the other I found in two peaces, I think you could still use it . It sounds like you have a nice collection. Nt

Brian, I've seen round weights like that used on Grandfather clocks as well!

Man that clock would weigh alot. Thanks for idea on the ball, it could have been a cannon ball, but used for another purpose. I can not imagine getting hit with any size of cannon shot. Nt

Very nice indeed!

All the best,

Lanny

I have probably dug 25 or more taps and only about five of the "valve keys".Nice stuff Brian!!

I have found several broken taps over the years, they are always a welcome find. I guess the barrel tap key I found last week was a good start. I will be heading back to the area to get permission to hunt the other half of the old village. I hope the owner does not mind, it is all grass but a large area, who knows what might be there , I don't think any one else has picked up on the the map of the town, until now. I will post my finds if I get out, there is a chance of rain. NT
