I believe the tank is a French Renault FT-17.

edit- Further research reveals it's probably an American M1917. It is cast from an AC Gilbert Kaster Kit mold 18. They were available from 1931 until the early 1940s. A.C. Gilbert Kaster Kits - Girders & Gears

The half looks like it was hit over the end of a pipe.

WOW!!! You guys are fantastic, I researched online & couldn't find anything on the tank!!
I grew up with a lot of A.C. Gilbert stuff but never seen that!

The half has been pressed in the exact spot on both sides, I thought possibly it fell into a nickel press/punch making it an error coin?

No, unfortunately that is not possible, a half could not fit into a nickel press. It is just damaged.
